No Normal Coffee Concentrate  – How it is made.

No Normal Coffee is made from coffee concentrate. But what is that exactly? In this article, we want to take a closer look at how coffee concentrate is made and why it’s the perfect solution for our outdoor coffee from the tube.

What is coffee concentrate?

Coffee concentrate is basically a super-strong coffee made from roasted and ground coffee. Unlike instant coffee, the full flavor of the beans is captured through a special extraction method. This gives our coffee paste a bursting bold taste. Simply stir a tablespoon into hot or cold water, and you’ve got a delicious cup of coffee in seconds – no fuss, no fancy equipment, just great coffee whenever you want it.

Why is it ideal for Outdoor-Coffee?

It was clear to us, Philippe and Alex, the founders of No Normal Coffee, that we needed a coffee option that was simple, flexible and tasty, no matter where we were. Perfect for hikes and adventures, our coffee concentrate offers a quick energy boost and the opportunity to enjoy a relaxing coffee ritual at the same time. No equipment, no hassle - just great coffee! If you’d like to read more about the story behind our coffee from the tube, you can do so here.

To create the coffee paste for our tube coffee, we teamed up with HACO, the Swiss specialists in the industry to provide us what we needed. But what exactly is coffee concentrate, and how is it made? We often get asked this question, so we’d like to explain it in more detail in this article.

How is coffee concentrate made?

The manufacturing process can be divided into the following four central steps:

1. Roasting

The coffee beans are carefully roasted according to the desired flavor profile to bring out their full taste. This step gives the coffee bean its distinctive aroma and dark color.

2. Extracting

After roasting, the coffee is ground and extracted with water. A special process ensures that volatile aromas are captured.

3. Concentrating

The resulting “coffee juice” is then evaporated and reduced to a concentrate. The previously captured aromas are returned to the concentrate to give the flavor its full brilliance.

4. Packaging

Finally, the concentrate is packed into the tube – practical, lightweight, and sealed for aroma preservation. Learn more about why we chose the aluminium tube as packaging method in this article.

Coffee concentrate makes our coffee paste the perfect solution for enjoying high-quality coffee on the go. The careful production process of the concentrate ensures that the taste and aromas of the coffee are preserved in the best possible way, while the product remains flexible, lightweight, and easy to use. With this, we wanted to offer a solution for all outdoor enthusiasts who, like Philippe and I, value an uncomplicated but flavorful coffee ritual no matter where and when.

Creating the final paste

To nail the perfect flavor for our coffee in a tube, we went through countless tests and tweaks. We landed on a bold dark roast and added a touch of organic Swiss beetroot sugar. This not only smooths out the intense, robust coffee taste but also gives you an extra energy boost when you're out and about. Plus, it’s not just for drinking – you can actually enjoy the paste straight from the tube! Curious about this surprising twist?
