This year, No Normal Coffee joined the Superlative Adventure Club and embarked on a thrilling seven-day rallye adventure through Scandinavia! Starting in Hamburg, Germany, our friend, colleague and photographer Mathyas Kurmann joined 300 drivers for a 2,500 km journey through Denmark, Sweden, and Norway, ensuring everyone received their daily coffee supply. Mathyas kept a journal to share his incredible experiences, giving us a glimpse of his adventurous time on the road.

Day 1

Let’s go! Today, we covered around 450 km from Basthorst, Germany, to Kullaberg, Sweden. Despite a slight hangover from the wild opening party last night, I was super excited to hit the road. Thankfully, No Normal Coffee helped ease our pounding heads.

At 11:40 AM, we finally started the first stage through Denmark. I had the chance to drive with Saskia and Dominik in their comfortable Gaia’s 100 Land Rover. After about 12 hours, we arrived at a campground by the Lighthouse in Kullaberg.

Day 2&3

The following day, I met Timo and Carsten, seasoned rally professionals. We drove around 1,007 km from Kullaberg to Gresslifoss, Norway. Thanks to their love for the outdoors and spontaneity, I experienced many wonderful places and made lifelong memories.

At night we slept under the stars and took showers under a nearby waterfall. Each morning, we enjoyed our coffee with the sunrise and stunning outdoor views. Life just felt perfect in those moments. Thanks to Timo and Carsten for an unforgettable experience!

Day 4

Let’s face it: being a passenger in a vintage 1970 Mercedes S-Class offers an unparalleled luxury that’s hard to match. Gliding through the stunning Norwegian fjords on day 4 of the rally felt like a dream—an experience of utmost comfort and sophistication. A heartfelt thanks to Team #133, Eva and Markus, for making me feel like an old German Chancellor, chauffeured in style through the breathtaking landscapes of Norway. Helmut let‘s do this again please!

Day 5

I’d call this my first rally apartment on wheels: a classic Volkswagen LT31 with a mint-condition Westfalia Florida interior. For this stage, Maja and Tim were my hosts, filling the cabin with superb tunes while Tim expertly navigated the 2.4-liter, 6-cylinder engine up the steep fjord passes. One unforgettable moment was when Tim instinctively bypassed a tunnel, opting for a dirt road alongside it. This detour led us to a magical view with waterfalls and one of the best coffee stops of the rally! Top-notch driving skills, Tim.

Day 6&7

Teh next team that I had the chance to join was a well established  father-daughter duo. They added a touch of flair to their 1987 Golf 2 GL by installing a small disco ball in the backseat, which they bought at a dollar store along the way. Unbeknownst to them, this perfectly matched my mood for the next two days. With Dad's classic oldies and Finni's favorite tunes—yes, she actually played the Beastie Boys—we always had the perfect soundtrack.

Christian, a plant dealer from Bremen, and his 13-year-old daughter Finni decided to participate in the rally after she saw photos of her dad in a previous event organized by the @SuperlativeAdventureClub. Reflecting on my own teenage years, I would have definitely not chosen to join a parent on a rally. How cool is that for a 13-year-old?!

We spent two days together, exchanging many stories, jumping in fjords and eating delicious food!

Day 8

For the last day and the final stretch, I teamed up again with Timo and Carsten, the team I drove with on the second day. Our main task was to finish the road book and complete the last few challenges before rolling into the finish, having covered 3,055 km. What followed was a huge party with all the teams and the award ceremony.

I spent my final day going from team to team, collectively celebrating everyone’s participation with a one or two beers ;) Pro tip for the morning after: always go for that morning swim, no matter how cold the lake or river may be, and pair it with a cup of no normal coffee. It works wonders for a hangover.

In conclusion: What an exceptional experience, with a rally field that couldn’t have been more diverse and relaxed! Thank you, @superlativeadventureclub, and all the teams I was able to share that quality time with! See you next year!!
