Article: Fueling Trailrunners at the First Oberaudorf Trail Festival

Fueling Trailrunners at the First Oberaudorf Trail Festival

From October 3rd to 6th, the time had finally come – the OTF made its debut, and we were right in the middle of it! Together with SALTY Trailrunning, we accompanied the brave runners as they pushed their limits. We witnessed pure grit and raw energy, steaming bodies and dripping sweat. It was amazing!

It all began when we first crossed paths with the fantastic SALTY Trailrunning crew at last year’s Outdoor ISPO in Munich (check out more ISPO here). From the moment we started chatting, it was clear we were kindred spirits, united by our shared love for the outdoors. Whether it’s tackling rugged mountain trails or simply basking in the breathtaking beauty of nature, we both thrive on the freedom and challenges that come with being outside. So, when they told us about their upcoming event at the Oberaudorf Trail Festival (OTF), we didn’t hesitate for a second – we knew we’d be there, no question. It was a date we wouldn’t miss!

Our contribution

At one of the refreshment points along the course, we found ourselves in the thick of the action, helping keep the runners fueled and ready for more. Drawing from our own experiences, we knew exactly what to do to give the runners that extra burst of energy to push through. It is as easy to make as it is great to enjoy and efficiently refuel: Bananas, packed with natural energy and nutrients, paired with our No Normal Coffee.

Bananas are a go-to for athletes — they’re rich in potassium, easy to digest, and offer a quick energy boost. The additional dab of coffee paste brings that extra caffeine hit to boost the energy just when the runners needed it most. It was the perfect combination to help them power through the rest of the course. (More on sports nutrition you can find in our other article here)

Watching the runners come through, we could see that they were intrigued by our banana-coffee combo. Some were a little unsure at first, but after trying it, we saw lots of smiles and nods of approval. The feedback was overwhelmingly positive, with many saying that they loved the idea.

It was a privilege to be part of the first Oberaudorf Trail Festival and to play a small role in supporting the team of @saltytrailrunning and the athletes as they pushed through this amazing challenge. We can’t wait to see how the festival grows in the future and look forward to finding more creative ways to fuel runners and outdoor enthusiasts alike!

If you’re ready to dive into the raw energy, sweat, and sheer determination from the trails — not to mention the stunning scenery of the German forests in Oberaudorf — you need to check out this epic video by our friend and visual magician, Julian Hartwig (@photo.hartwig). It's almost like being right there in the heat of the action. And if that’s not enough for you, head over to our Instagram, where we’ve curated an incredible collection of shots from the one and only Mathyas Kurmann (@mathyaskurmann) - this article is just a first sneak peak ;) Huge shoutout to both of these guys for capturing the rawness of that event!
